Welcome to 8th grade and the Patriotic Wolves Team.I am looking forward to being your Science teacher this year.Please read the class procedures and expectations below.
1.Discipline: Follow all school, team, and classroom rules. You are expected to be responsible, courteous, and mature in class.Any behavior that is disruptive to you, your classmates, or my teaching will not be tolerated.Disruptive behaviors include, getting out of your seat at inappropriate times, use of personal devices, continued talking, being off task, and being disrespectful.If you choose to participate in disruptive behaviors, you will face consequences:
First Offense- Warning Second Offense- Warning Third Offense or more- Silent lunch, email home or office referral
2.Starting Class:When you enter the classroom, you should go directly to your seat and begin your EOG Vocab Word of the Day.If you are LATE, you will be asked to sign in on the tardy sheet on the desk near the door.If you are late 3 times, you will be assigned Silent Lunch.
3.Moving around the Room:If you need to get out of your seat to sharpen a pencil, get a tissue, or throw something away, you should wait until the teacher is finished speaking.
4.Leaving the room:If you want to leave the room (go to the bathroom, locker, etc.), wait for an appropriate time, then raise your hand and ask. I follow the 10/10 rule. You may bring a water bottle to my class. Please do not ask to be excused for water.
5.Make-up work:If you are absent, it is YOUR responsibility to get any make-up work AND turn in any work to me personally.All assignments will be written in the daily Assignment Log near the front door.Assignments are to be turned in in a timely manner. Also, refer to my Assignment Notebook to see what you are missing or look on the homepage of this website.
6.Science Lab Activities:To ensure safety in the classroom during lab activities, students are expected to follow the Safety Rules and Lab Directions.Students who fail to stay on task, and follow these rules will be given an alternate written assignment.NOTE:You must sign and return the Lab Safety Agreement BEFORE you are allowed to participate in ANY lab activity.
7.Homework/ Late work:Homework is due at the beginning of class.It is to be turned into the homework box for your class period.All work should be written in pencil, or blue or black ink.Write the correct heading (name, date and period), as well as the assignment title and number, if it is on notebook paper. The school policy is: 20 points off of work 1-3 days late and 50 points off work turned in later than 3 days.
8.EOG Essential Vocabulary:Each Science Unit, you will be given a list of Essential Vocabulary Words, which you will need to know for your Science EOG. You will create an interactive notebook in which you will write the definition, an example of picture for each word. These will be kept in a marble notebook and left in class most of the time.
9. Cell Phone Usage: WMS is a BYOD school, however to minimize distractions, no personal devices are allowed in the Science Classroom unless previously specified that they will be needed. Parents and students will be notified at least a day in advance if a device is needed the following day for a classroom activity. Parents and students should make all after school arrangements, before students come to school, and not during class time via text. If a phone is out in class, the student will be told once to put the device away. The second time a device is out, without authorization, the phone will be taken to the office. A parent may be contacted to come pick it up.
Grading:Your grade will be calculated using the following criteria: Assignment Type: Test/ Projects…………………...…..40% Labs/ Quizzes …....…...............35% Classwork…………………...………...25%
